REASERCHING ABOUT METAPHOR EXPRESSION IN SOME KOREAN COMMON IDIOMS
Abstract
ABSTRACT— Metaphor is a rhetorical device that is common in most languages around the world. Metaphors help readers and listeners to better visualize the described objects and phenomena. In language, metaphors make language lively, attractive. In Korean, metaphorical rhetorical devices are widely used in idioms, proverbs, and even idomatic expression. However, if for native (Korean), it helps the writer, the speaker to express his or her feelings and thoughts delicately. On the contrary, for Korean learners, this corrective method both stimulates learners to find hard-working expressions hidden inside them; making it difficult to understand or create awkward situations when misusing the meaning of the sentence. The article analyzes some metaphorical expressions in Korean proverbs and bars and presents appropriate usage.
